Cool Stuff Episode 1

Hi and welcome to the first episode of

COOL STUFF!!!

This will be a blog of stuff Im interested in and just find cool at the moment. Ive never really done anything like this before, but hopefuly it is at least slightly interesting to read!

Todays episode is about horror games and horror as a genre in general. Its very interesting, because horror is ment to be a negative emotion, but its turned into somthing we do for enjoyment. Im scared relatively easily, and somtimes horror games are too much for me, but they are still really enjoyable.

Silent Hill

There is so much cool stuff about silent hill. The atmosphere is so cool, both the foggy abandoned towns, and the industrial hell that it transforms into. The fact that silent hill is kinda real but also kinda in the head of the people who are there means that there is such a creative freedom in what can happen. Even if it doesnt make sense logically it still fits into the world as part of silent hill is that things dont make sense or are convoluted and a mystery.

The music is also really cool, I love the themes and spooky music. I learnt how to play one of silent hill 2s main themes on piano (Promise (Reprise)) a few months back. (I should really try playing it again!). Not only are the themes really cool, but quite a few of the games have songs with lyrics that are really good. My favourite one Ive listned to so far is When you're gone from Silent hill Shattered memories. Its so catchy and fun!

Weirdly I've not actually played any silent hill games yet, but im looking forward to giving Silent hill home coming a go. I really like Alex Shepard as a character and the story is really fun. It is heavily inspired by the movie Jacobs ladder (1990) which is honestly an amazing film.

Jacobs Ladder

Jacobs ladder is one of my favourite movies. Its a very terrifying movie about the horrors of war, mental health, the lack of help with mental health and mortality. The movie really freaked me out more than other horror things, because war is very much real. I can realise that monsters do not exist in real life, so that horror ends once you have turned off the game. However war is very much real. Genocides are happening right now and innocent people are being murdered. The horrors become more real after you finish the movie. Hopefuly this will be different in the future, we are not free till everyone is free. Free Palestine. If you can deal with the dread and the gore, then I highly suggest watching the movie as its so good.

I havent watched the remake of Jacobs Ladder yet, but will watch it soon. Apparently its not very good, but I would like to watch it myself to see what its like.

Sorry We're Closed

Speaking about a game I have actually played, Sorry We're Closed is a must play. It is basicaly a queer silent hill set in London. Exploration is done in third person with dynamic camera angles, whereas combat switchs to first person shooting, the first person mode also allows you to closer apreciate the gorgeous enviroments. The cast of characters is so cool and diverse, as a non binary trans woman a feel so at home with the characters. All the characters are so fun and lovable even the villains. You kind of play match maker for all the characters, trying to make the right desicions so that they can get together. Also as the main character Michelle you are dealing with your break up with your ex, and also a possible relationship with a demon.

Its also a horror game as well lol, with awesome settings that you can view in two alternate planes of existence: The demon world and the human world The Third eye mechanic is used so well, puzzles require you to switch between the worlds, what might be a wall of spikes in the demon world is a drawer with an id card in the human world. Its also used in combat as while looking at the human world you can see through the demons at their hearts, which are weakspots that deal more damage, but are harder to hit. The eye also transforms the characters you meet between their human and demon forms. The character designs are so amazing, I would love to wear all of their outfits, they are dripping with style! All the charcters are hot lol.

You can't talk about the game with out talking about the music (Catton Arthur, C bedford, Devix, Okumura). It is one of the best game sound tracks. The background themes are both spooky, but also really fun and catchy, the fact that they can be spooky and be danced to is really impressive. Then there is the boss fight songs.
Each boss fight has their own unique song with lyrics that tells the story of that character, mostly done by Okumura Music Group. Okumura is just outstanding, I highly reccomend listening to their other music after hearing their work from Sorry We're Closed, I highly reccomend international tobey anthem, z fighter, police officer diss track and Cogs In The Machine. Also their latest song DONTGIVEAF**K being the first song MiSHELLE has made after coming out as trans is so cool!

I could talk about Sorry We're closed and Okumura forever, but honestly I just suggest you just play the game and listen to the music yourself. Sorry we're closed gets a new update on March 6th with New Game+, Time attack mode and new difficulty modes! So Its going to get even better! (I took so long to publish this that the update is already out lol). If you want to get it its on steam but I would reccomend Gog more because Its DRM free! The game also has a free demo you should give a try!
