Third times the charm
About a month and a bit ago (Potentialy 3 or more months ago now lol) I had a go of Soulframe, the fantasy version of warframe, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I decided to give Warframe another go. This would be the third time i had started warframe. The two previous times I had played I had gotten to Deimos and then had lost interest. I did enjoy the two previous times but I hadnt even unlocked a second warframe. Another reason I was giving it another go was I saw the adverts for Warframe 1999 and Isleweaver and the characters just lookeed so cool. I don't know why this time was different, but the game just clicked and I fell in love.
Story
The story of Warframe is so good. First of all there is so much lore to discover that opens up as you go through the main quests.
The quests also have really good voice acting and really cool cinematic cut scenes.
The actual storyline has so many plot twists and big reveals that work so well. The music also complements the story and the setting so well.
The first time you arrive in fortuna is honestly breathtaking. The story takes along time to get through especialy if you are trying to get to 1999 like I was.
But if you take your time with it and savour all the story beats along the way it is so worth it, and may be some of the best story telling in video games.
I think part of the reason I enjoyed it so much was that I took my time this time. I wasn't rushing through the game, I took my time enjoying all the different parts and also realised that a lot of the systems that you can see can be late game so you dont need to unlock everything straight away.
Mechanics (Mod Time!)
Warframe has very interesting mechanics of getting stronger and improving.
Weapons and warframes do have ranks that you level up, but the gains you get from them are quite minimal and you quite quickly reach max rank on all of your warframes and weapons.
The main way you get stronger is through the modding system. During missions enemies will sometimes drop mods when defeated. Mods are like trading cards that have effects on them that you attach to your warframes and weapons.
E.g One mod might increase the criticl chance of your weapon, another might change how fast your weapons firerate is.
Mods also have a rank which when upgraded increases the bonus you get from that mod.
This allows a lot of creative freedom in making whatever build you want, two people playing the same warframe and using the same weapons could play complety different as they are using different mods.
An additional part of the puzzle is that warframes and weapons have a mod capacity number. Mods have a drain number on them that shows how much mod capacity it will take up.
This makes optimising your weapons and warframes an interesting challenge as you are balancing how much mod capacity to use for what types of mods. Also you can only have a certain number of mods equiped at once even if you have spare mod capacity.
Another nice thing is that mods are not permanently fixxed and can be changed and swapped easily, allowing you to test lots of differnt combinations, finally mods can be used on multiple different weapons at the same time, no need to get duplicates.
Music
The music is so good. There are many tracks with vocals that are so entwined with the story that it gives the songs so much emotion. Youve just experienced what the song is singing about as you've been playing. Then there is 1999.
1999 (Boy band time!)
Once you get to 1999 the music gets so good. There is an entire album of songs with vocals that are amazing!!! I higly reccomend listening to the 1999 ost even if you don't want to play the game.
It gets even better though, there is an in universe boy band called Onlyne! And they made 2 songs for them that are so good. Ive never had a boy band phase, so it is very funny to start one for a made up band lol, but they are just so good. Ive listened to their 2 songs on repeat, and I hope they get a new one.
1999 (Its a dating game!)
Also when you get to 1999, the game for some reason turns into a dating game. All the characters in the group are very cooly designed (and hot lol). You basicaly spend your time on MSN messenger chatting and flirting with bisexual super soldiers which is very fun lol.
Ending
While writing this its been a while since ive been into warframe. I wrote half of this then ADHD and autism did its thing and I was no longer that bothered and havent updated the website for a while lol. Its been fun wirting the second half and remembering how cool warframe is. Also there should be more updates to website soon! since im getting back into writting!
